Hi all,

We have notice that when installing Smartcode repackaged Real VNC server on client machine, we cant view the dropdown menu in MS Office 2007 when connected to it. When however we install Real VNC Server from the www.realvnc.com site and install the .exe, it works fine and we can view it. However this is hardly ideal as we have all our registered computers in Smartcode Repackaged VNC Server.

Does anyone have the same problem, or is this a recent bug? How can we fix it? As you can imagine, it complicates our lives when troubleshooting users remotely.

Thank you.

Hi,
the deployment wizard installs the latest version of RealVNC Free Edition 4.1.3. This version is quite old.

I'm guessing that you've tried to download and install Personal or Enterprise edition of RealVNC. Unlike the Free Edition, those two are paid versions of RealVNC and receive regular updates. So most probably they have the bug fixed.

My advice is to use TightVNC 2.0.2 instead. It’s compatible with Vista/Windows 7 and captures MS Office applications correctly.

Hi,

The version we use is Real VNC Repackaged by Smartcode 4.1.3 and the one from www.realvnc.com is 4.1.3 too .

Could it be the repackaging?

Thank You

Could it be the repackaging?

Nope. But what could be is that the default settings used by the deployment wizard, could be different from the default settings used by the native installer.
Please compare the settings between RealVNC installed via the deployment wizard and RealVNC installed by the native installer.

But in any case, I recommend you to give TightVNC a try. Since RealVNC 4.1.3 Free Edition is not compatible with Vista/Windows 7, we considering removing ability to install it via the deployment wizard.
