Hi All

I am running Smartcode VNC Manager version 3.0

When i initially installed VNC manager i ran a scan within the program to search for workstations on our network - no problem.

I have assigned these workstations to folders that can be identified by the ICT suites and other rooms we have.

When i reimage the workstations, which is quite often, and the workstations are put back on to the domain i go to look at a particular room and it shows computers in other rooms not the room i initially setup (sorry this is rather difficult to explain)!!

When i reimage the machines, i use the sysprep program to regenerate the SSIDs and the machines get their IP addresses through DHCP (which is what i think the problem is)

basically when i ever reimage a suite i have toi rescan and re setup all our workstations in smartcode vnc manager in order to view the right computers in the right rooms

is there anyway i can overcome this?

my second question is how can i integrate smartcode VNC manager with active directory so that it picks up computers and users? is this possible?

Many thanks

Nick

Nick,
I'm abit confused about the first question. But at least I can answer on the second one. Next version 3.1 of the VNC Manager is going to included Active Directory import Wizard that will allow you to mass register Active Directory computers.

Hi

Thanks for reply, the first question is difficult to describe as you can see!!

put as simply as possible

i can detect computers on our network and put them into folders inside VNC manager

(so all the computers that are in our main computer suite i put in one folder labelled ICTA for example)

When i connect and preview whats happening on the screens of those computers they all work perfectly

When i reimage the computers, then try to connect to them through VNC manager i will end up connecting to another computer in the school as our workstations get their ip adresses through DHCP, so the machines i intially setup in the ICTA folder have got different IP addresses now.

As a result i have to delete the contents of that ICTA folder and rescan the network to get the machines back again with the correct IP address.

At least thats what i THINK the problem is!

Regards

Nick

ok basically when i first installed smartcode VNC version 3.0 i scanned the network and out some workstations in to their own folders. - no problem

i then reimaged a suite of computers and put them back on our domain with the same name etc.

when i connect to the reimaged computers on VNC manager after a reimage the thumbnail views of the computers i get are not the ones in the reimaged suite - they are computer elsewhere in the school

Why is this??

our computers get their IP addressed through DHCP so maybe when they are reimaged they get a new IP address and because the computers i have setup in the folders are the computers with the old pre imaged IP address its not connecting to the right ones?????

how can this be solved?

May be you should use DNS host names instead of IP addresses? Register Scanned Computers wizard has such setting.
