Hello Yuri,

We use S-code with the configuration files saved on an external server trough secure VPN. The problem we have is that when we start S-Code and if the VPN connection to the server failed, S-code start with an empty configuration. If the VPN connection start and we quit S-code, with the automatic saving, S-code save an empty configuration on the existing files and erase everything ...lot of hours of work lost in a second. We just had this issue.
Can you add a protection when starting S-code to avoid this kind of issue ?
Can you add an backup/restore field in a menu who save the data in another folder and have the possibility to reload a previous saved cession?
It may be a manual or automatic backup when starting s-code (copy all data in the backup folder before starting). In any case, if we have the issue described , we may copy the last backup in the main folder to restore the data (manually or via the restore menu)
If the vpn connection is not active, the copy doesn't work so we can restore the data at the next start (if the connection start during the S-code session with the destruction of all records when quit).
You may use the error to place an alert message and stop the auto-saving when quit (or give the choice).
Thanks for your attention and don't hesitate to contact me if you have some missing information.
Any other suggestion will be great.
Thanks,
Pierre

Hi Pierre,
thank you for highlighting this issue. I'll look into it.

FYI: when SmartCode VNC Manager saves a configuration it creates a backup copy of configuration files with previous settings. Those files have .bac extension. Until this problem is fixed, perhaps you could use those files to restore previous settings.

Hi again Yury,
We still be afraid each time we start S-Code with the data on an external server connected trough VPN.
Isn't it a possibility to add a protection menu when you start a saved profile (not empty) to avoid an empty one when started with a connection lost  (as you have if you lost your VPN connection) ?
- You may create a local file with the total of records by example (or any code who tells to S-Code that the profile is normally not empty) and compare with the number of loaded ones. A menu may ask to continue anyway or go back to the manager menu.
- You may have in the profile configuration a field with a VPN IP who is checked before starting if your data are on a VPN connected server...or the server address checked by ping...
- Any other suggestion is welcome.
My best wishes in this end of Year.

Additional update. Starting with v6.16, SmartCode VNC Manager will show an error when a folder with configuration files doesn't exist or couldn't be opened.
For now this has been implemented for XmlBased profiles only. We are going to implement the same functionality for FTP and Amazon S3 based profiles.
