I want to use VNC Manager in a classroom enviroment where a tutor can view their students machines remotely. I have set up a group in "my registered computers" right clicked this group and then selected "Add to VNC Thumbnail View". When I open the thumbnail view the computer tries to connect to all the clients in the list. All good so far. However if a machine is not switched on i get the error 10060 failed to connect to server. Is there any way to have it so that it does not fail but shows that the client could not connect. With maybe later connecting to the server when the computer is switched on? Also I have noticed is that when the student computer is switched off it falls off the thumbnail view. So in summary to do what i want it to do, I am constantly refreshing the thumbnail view and clearing 10060 errors.

Hi Axel,
it's possible to get rid of the message box. It's also possible to configure the thumbnail items to automatically reconnect. Please take a look at Tools \ Options \ Thumbnails View

Is it possible to add EDP clients to a Thumbnail view? If so, how?

Thanks,

Niles

Unfortunately no, RDP cannot be used for thumbnails view functionality.

About RDP thumbnails - in windows there is utility called shadow.exe, which allows you to connect to existing RDP sessions to view the user's activity. I think it is possible to create a service that will run on the server and provide RDP thumbnails on request

Hi Leon,
we are aware about "shadowing" feature of the Terminal Server. This feature has been around for many years. But unfortunately, it won't help us much. First of all the "shadow" feature only work if you are observing a screen of someone who is already logged into their computer locally. As soon as the local user logs the "shadow" client will be disconnected. Secondly the local user has to allow you to see his screen. This is similar to the "Accept remote connection" feature in VNC server.

There are other limitations, but even those two that I just mentioned made implementation of RDP thumbnails view quite unpractical.
