Hi S-Code,
I know this one is easy!
I would greatly benefit from a central connection history database of sorts, ie a log that you can open up quickly that would show what computers you connected to and at what time, starting with the most recent connection!
I know each machine holds histories, but a lot of my connections are ad-hoc, ie I will receive a call and the user will just tell me their IP or hostname, which I'll connect to using 'quick connect'. The problem with this is if I need to disconnect from the host for whatever reason (reboot, VNC crash etc.), once I've disconnected there is no way of reconnecting to that same computer without remembering the IP and entering it again in 'quick connect'.
Although most of the time I can remember the IP or hostname, occasionally I will forget it and will generally have to call the user back to ask for the details again!
It would be nice in these situations to open the log and see, "Ah yeah 10.x.x.x was the IP address"
I would guess the information would as a minimum need to record the hostname/IP, date/time of connection, connection type (VNC, RDP etc) to be useful? Perhaps taking it further it could have a duration counter or a connected and disconnected date stamps. And perhaps a reconnect button next to each entry so you can jump back to the connection!
That would be a fantastic feature I do believe!
Thanks!
Regards,
Graeme Lucas

Hi Graeme, I'm not sure if you aware about this but the VNC Manager stores connection log information in the Windows Event Log. By default it uses local event log, but it can be configured to use event log on another computer. Do give it a try, because it sounds like the feature you are looking for

Thanks for this information, no I didn't know about the event viewer side of things
Could this however be integrated 'nicely' into VNCM, as this method is quite long-winded, and the view layout is not ideal (you cannot see the host details without going through the entries one by one etc.).
I'm seeing a 'tools' > 'connection history' menu path.
In there a nice little window with the columns Date/Time, Host, Connection Type (RDP/VNC), Retry connection (button).
I personally like having all the tools easily accessible via the one location, rather than having to minimize VNCM and opening computer management to view the history
I will use the event viewer for now!
Could this possibly be looked at as a future enhancement perhaps, this would make things much easier?
Thanks again!
Regards,
Graeme Lucas

I know you can do this for individual machine, but something exactly the same as the connection history, but on a global level is what I'm after!
Thanks for the prompt responses as usual!

Thank you, I know I'll put your hard work to good use!
For your information I've called upon the even viewer several time this week, it's certainly a great help!
