Hi S-Code,
Several of our technicians using VNCM 4.5.4.0 + Hotfix and 4.5.5.0 including myself are experiencing consistent freezing during VNC sessions.
This is a bug effecting all UVNC clients.
The session will run smooth for a minute or so (although the exact timing is random), then the session will freeze. VNCM will continue to work most of the time. This problem also seems to be triggered when you open and close the file transfer window.
You then need to shut down the VNC session and start it again, although if you stop and start a VNC session quickly it pauses for about 20-30 seconds before it gets going.
VNC Manager 4.5.x in general is unstable compared to 4.0.14.x. I used to be able to open VNC Manager first thing in the morning and shut it in the evening. Now I'm finding I'm having to restart it several times a day!
I can replicate this problem on UVNC 1.4.x, 1.5.0 and 1.5.3 clients, on both VNCM 4.5.4.0 and 4.5.5.0
Thanks,
Graeme Lucas
Regards,
Graeme Lucas

This is a bug effecting all UVNC clients.
Could you please clarify this statement. When you say all UVNC clients, do you mean the VNC Manager VNC viewe and native UVNC viewer, or different VNC Manager builds, or may be different UVNC Server versions?

Are there stability problems other than the freezing VNC session?

If this problem can be replicated with native UltraVNC client then there isn't much we can do. Most probably what is happening is UVNC server gets stuck and starts sending invalid packets to its clients.
We are seeing a few new problems with UVNC server 1.0.5.X. For example if you are connected to a computer via RDP, UltraVNC server would fail to start, etc.

I mean the UVNC hosts sorry (remote computers), by all clients I meant the hosts running either Smartcode repackaged UVNC versions 1.5.0, 1.5.3 or 1.4.x.

Yes the program in general is less responsive (I realise how unhelpfull that statement is!) The program will often freeze up just if it's sitting their open. I fear the memory leak problem in 4.5.4.0 may not be completely fixed?

We only have Smartcode repackaged UVNC 1.4.x, 1.5.0 and 1.5.3 hosts!, we simply do not use native UVNC. All UVNC installations were originally done with the VNCM UVNC deployment wizard!
We are seeing a few new problems with UVNC server 1.0.5.X. For example if you are connected to a computer via RDP, UltraVNC server would fail to start, etc.
Yep totally agree, RDP and VNC sessions cause problems when run at the same time!

I've been testing some more with UVNC 1.0.5.3 v 1.0.2.
The freezing during a VNC session DOES seem to be linked to 1.0.5.x hosts.
However once you've connected to a 1.0.5.x host, UVNC Manager 4.5.x seems to sometimes become unstable, even after disconnecting from a 1.0.5.x host.
I was connected to a UVNC 1.0.2 hosting (using VNCM 4.5.5.0) for over 20 minutes without a hang. I decided to do a test and 'upgraded' (I use that term loosely ) from 1.0.2 to 1.0.5.3 using the VNC Manager deployment wizard.
After connecting to the same machine, now running 1.0.5.3, the session froze within one minute (Actually after clicking Start > My Computer, which seems to be a common point of failure).
I then uninstalled 1.0.5.3 and reinstalled 1.0.2 and the problem went away!
I can only assume the problem is when the host needs to send a big chunk of data, ie when the screen changes significantly and the scrape need to work hard. This seems to be when 1.0.5.x freezes!
I hope this information helps!

Graeme Lucas

Thanks Graeme! We will be running some tests next week trying to reproduce this issue and try to find out why exactly the VNC Manager hangs.

Can you please double check that you have the v4.5.5.0 build installed. You might think that you installed it but in fact you could still have the pre-release build with the VNC bug installed. Please see this post.
