Got a suggestion that may be helpful to some peopple - I know it would be for me.

When you're editing computer properties and you have a heap of computers, it's pretty time consuming and annoying to:
- Right click on the computer
- Click properties
- Make the change
- Click ok
- Repeat for each computer

A few bits of other software I've used have 'save & next' and 'save & previous' buttons, so you only have to open up the properties box once, make the change, click Next, made the change, click Next, etc. Once you reach the end of the list, the button disables or displays a 'at the end of the list' type message.

AND/OR (even better)

It'd be quite useful to be able to make bulk property changes to computers that are in the list. (not through inheritance - which doesn't seem to want to work on my dynamic search folders??). Should be able to multiselect computers and open up a properties box which would apply to all selected computers, rather than a single one.

Scott,
you might want to give a try to the properties inheritance feature. A registered computer can inherit its properties from a parent folder or from the global settings.
This way instead of changed properties on one by one computer basis, you could change were parent group folder properties just once and that's it.

I have tried and tried to use inheritance effectively but I often can't get it to work.

I use Dynamic Search Folders rather than My Registered Computers as my computer list - does inheritance work on DSF?

Here's what I'm doing as an example. I have a DSF set up to get a computer list from one of our OUs in Active Directory.

- I open up the properties screen for that DSF and go to the inheritance tab.
- Click Settings ("Current Value" is set to "Uses Global Settings")
- Put a setting in there (in this example, I'm disabling the "This computer has Microsoft Virtual Server installed" tickbox)
- I empty out the DSF and start a network scan on the folder
- On all of the computers that appear, their properties still have the Virtual Server tickbox ticked.

Am I doing something wrong?

In any case, I still think it's worthwhile to add some sort of bulk change facility, or an easy way to edit a large amount of computers (like the 'save and next' button).

Cheers,
Scott
