Sometimes I have to add a large number of connections to my groups.  It would be nice to have an option to create one with all the settings I need and then clone it several times and change just a few things (like name, and connection address).

Actually such feature exists in the current version. You can use Copy To Group... command to clone your registered computers. Or you could use drag&drop with left Control key pressed to copy registered computers into another or into the same folder.
