[FIXED 5.5.10.0] VNC session 'stuck' after File Transfer

This has been happening for at least the past year or so across all the latest released versions.

Basically, after initiating and completing a file transfer and closing the file transfer window on a VNC session, the underlying VNC session is 'frozen' at that point. Clicking on another tab (such as Computer Manager) and back to the VNC session allows the session to continue, but if you didn't figure out to click over and back, you're stuck thinking the session is dead.

I first noticed this issue when using the SmartCode VNC Manager (Enterprise Edition) x64_5.5.4.0 CTP.exe and now I see it using the SmartCode VNC Manager (Enterprise Edition) x64_5.5.6.0 CTP.exe version. When first clicked on within the console it does activate then after a few seconds the remote user can see the screen and use the keyboard and mouse ? It may have been happening in prior versions but I never noticed.

I running the console on win 7 64bit, remote clients are win xp 32bit

RDP Client issue

First:
As posted a week ago which never appeared in the 5.0.14.0 RTM a connection to RDP when getting maximised and you have two displays then you just see half of the RDP session, cause it maximises the window over 2 displays.

Second issue:
When you are connected over rdp to a server, and you logout then the window dont closes themself,
it stay and just display a white colour.

A fix for this bugs would be good.

[FIXED 5.5.3.1] Windows 7 Issues

I am running windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit as my workstation. I installed VNC
Manager 5.5.1.0 x64. Everything works well with the exception of my own machine.
Instead of my ip address (recently used ip address) I see ::1. I'm running ipv4
and 6 both. When I try to do an arp scan on my machine, it fails. I also no
longer see the currently logged-in users for any of my machines on the
network. All the other machines on the network are WindowsXP Pro SP3.

Network Scan Issue

When I perform a network scan on one of my dynamic search folders I only have one computer show up. I've done it by "ou" and by subnet with the same results. It's strange but it looks like all of the computers are being scanned but not filling in the list. The one computer's attributes change like all of the other computers are using that one computer. Sorry, that's not easy to explain.

I have a problem with thumbnails not being rendered properly. They look like this:

When I refresh the thumbnails screen, the colored bars just move around. It happens on all the machines. I use the UltraVNC server 1.0.5.3.

Any idea what is wrong?

[FIXED 5.0.17.0] VNCManager upgrade a pain

Every time I upgrade versions, I have to go dig out my serial number and re-register. It always tells me I have 0 of 14 days left in my trial and won't let me cancel the registration. If I hit the wrong button (which I usually do) VNCManager disappears but it never closes. I have to give it the three-finger salute and manually kill the process.

Am I doing something wrong here?

Vista business, All the current MS updates, 4Gigs RAM.

Logon credentials in computer groups

I have several "computer groups" , each in "Use setting from : this computer properties" mode, and when I change Logon credentials, on "General" property page in one group, they automatically changed in all other groups to same values. :ermm: I am using VNC Manager 5.0.16.2, on Windows 7, and sorry for my English :blush:

Menu Bar Location

In version 4 if I say move the Menu Bar (Manager Actions View Tools Window Help) to say vertical down the side when I next reload the program it stuffs it back at the top. Version 3 was able to remember the location of the bar. Could you fix this please ?

Hangs when opening Tight VNC thumbnails/groups

I am seeing a new error, but I'm not sure which revision I started encountering it. I used to be able to open 16 VNC windows at a time without having any problems. Now when I open VNC instances, or more my CPU usage goes from very high to exactly 50% (on a dual core machine); when this happens I lose control of VNC Manager also and need to end the process.

Perhaps this should be a feature request, to be able to launch the VNC windows externally from VNC Manager so that Windows can attempt to handle those tasks.

[FIXED 5.0.16.0] Changing Settings while running a Default Ping Scan = crash

This is not a major problem but, when running a default ping scan and you realise that it would be nice to have more threads so you go Tools > Options > Network Scan > Edit Default Settings > Number of threads and increase the number of threads, when you click ok and ok it crashes the vnc manager application (VNC manager ent.) Im on winxp 3gig p3.4 etc.

Stuck at connecting screen

I work in IT at a casino. We have about 200 computers on our network and connect to most of them. However, when connecting to a select few, the screen just sits on Connecting to computername:5900. Are there some things I can check? I tried using IP address to eliminate DNS as the issue. Is it possible that antivirus would be causing issues? Any help is appreciated.

Hello,

we are using Smartcode VNC Manager Enterprise 4.5.9.1 with RealVNC 4.1.3
The first problem is that its not possible to resize the window to use all 2 Monitors.
So in my case i am using 2 monitors with resolution 1200x1600 (pivot mode).
so the problem is that all clients i access with higher resolution then 1200 i have to scroll instead strech them over 2 screens:

Also I have to scroll up and down what isn't normaly nessasary, cause 1024 fits in 1600 ;)

We use SmartCode VNC Manager to support our training classes. Some students are local and some are remote. The remote students use terminal services (RPP) to connect in to our local workstations which have been se up for the training class. When the remote students connect in, the instructor loses the VNC Manager session for that machine and the student must then while in session, start the VNC Server. I have sent this to the technical support folks and was wondering if anyone else has this as an issue (or is it just me)??? :P

Dynamic Search Folders fail to scan full subnet

Hi There,

I'm currently checking out your product for managing a whole bunch of machines on a set subnet of one of our networks. Our subnet is 10.30.0.0/23, so 10.30.0.1 to 10.30.1.254 with a 255.255.254.0 subnet mask.

Now, when I tried creating a new Search Folder with the default settings, it selected 'Scan IP addresses range' from 10.30.1.1 to 10.30.1.254, and running this search worked fine, and it found all my machines within that range. I suspect the default settings were because the PC I was testing on had a 10.30.1.x address.

I then tried to adjust the from address to 10.30.0.1 to properly reflect my full subnet, and re-ran the search, but it then found nothing (not even the machines from 10.30.1.1 upwards it found previously).

I then tried using a predefined IP scan group. Again, adding a range from 10.30.0.1 to 10.30.1.254 didn't work. I then tried adding two ranges to my group, from 10.30.0.1 to 10.30.0.254 and 10.30.1.1 to 10.30.1.254, this time, it found nothing on 10.30.0.x but found all the machines on 10.30.1.x.

I'm currently using 4.5.9.1, and previously tried the test on 5.0.8.0 before I tried downgrading to resolve the problem.

Any help you can be to get this to work would be great.

In the export dialog box for installed software (maybe others too) in the file type drop down list, there is a "semicolumn" which should probably be "semicolon"

Hi,

I've put Windows 7 on a machine that I will temporarily use for my computer used to assist users in my company. When I use VNC Manager to connect to the remote computers, the VNC server crashes on their systems. I'm using UltraVNC as the distribution for those computers. I've tried both the current release and the beta release of VNC Manager. When I use UVNC's viewer, there are no problems. In fact, at this time I've replaced the default connection from the built in VNC viewer in VNC Manager, to the external UVNC viewer. Which of course is somewhat of a pain to use.

I can't seem to find any solid scenario where it happens every time. Sometimes changing between monitor views, all remotes use dual monitors, or using aspect view or normal view and changing it can cause a crash. It seems to crash on connect mostly with the aspect view active.

I use a large number of different UVNC versions on the remote computers (over 100 in all that I manage) and there appears to be no difference in how they act with what version I connect to.

I'll be glad to assist by sending any information about this issue to you guys if that would help any. I'm still testing settings and changes to see if I can find some sort of common action. But, so far the problem is very random in actions. Other than it crashes the server 99% of the time during a session within the first minute or two, if not on the initial connect which is the most common.

Screen flicker when closing connections

When closing an open connection, the screen flickers a lot as it's changing the layouts and tool bars. The drawings of the tabs are completely messed up as its removing a tab and then redrawing the other tabs. One recommendation to avoid some of the screen flicker is to possibly switch to an existing connection tab if available (maybe the first one to the left of the one being closed) instead of switching to the Computer Manager tab which causes the tool bars to change completely. As for the redrawing of the tabs, I'm not sure, you'll have to look at the controls being used.

Cosmetic - Icons in server list don't line up correctly

The icons for VNC, RDP, PING don't line up correctly with the rest of the icons (ex. green check boxes) in the server lists. The icons in the list header seem to be centered and the icons for each server seem to be left aligned. There are also some weird highlighting issues when the manager does not have focus.

Execute remote command - Cancel doesn't work

I noticed that the cancel button doesn't do anything once you start remotely executing a task. Even if the "in operation" comment hasn't reached a given computer yet it still chugs through to the end.

Window sizing arrows not showing

VNC Manager 4.5.8.2 and UVNC 1.0.5.x

Window sizing arrows are not showing on to the remote client. We can resize windows, but the sizing arrows of the mouse pointer are not visible. We only see the standard mouse pointer.

When we use the VNC Viewer, than the sizing arrows are visible.

VNC Manager Lockups

I am currently on VNC Mgr Enterprise v4.5.3.0 but I have been experiencing this problem for the last 3-4 releases.

Sometimes when launching a VNC connection from "My Registered Computers", the tab for the PC will appear but then nothing else happens. If I wait for maybe 15-30 seconds and then click on the tab, "Not responding" will appear on the title bar and I then have to "End Task" on VNC Mgr. I can then re-launch VNC Mgr. and generally I can then access the PC that I tried to access and locked up VNC Mgr previously.

When I check the Event Log I see the not too helpful Event ID 1002 ...

Hanging application VNCManager.exe, version 4.5.3.0, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.

Another thing that regularly locks up VNC Mgr (say 3 out of 10 times) is doing a shutdown on a PC that you are accessing via VNC. When this happens, it requires an "End Task" to proceed. The other 7 times, the tab will close and everything works as it should.

We use UltraVNC v1.0.5 installed from the UltraVNC installer.

VNC Manager 4.5.7.0 + UVNC = freeze

Hi,

I'm new VNC Manager user (still on the trial), and I'm having same problem as described by other users.
VNC manager is freezing while connecting (or during the connection) to UVNC servers (1.0.5.3).
Looks like it happens on really slow connections, or when there are connection problems - like the situations when the regular UVNC client is not refreshing the screen, or when it's waiting before/after password prompt (negotiationg protocol version, password accepted etc.).

The difference is that when VNC Manager is having issues with singe uvnc connection the only thing you can do is to kill VNC Manager - but it also kills all other active sessions, and it's really irritating.

And this is the only thing stopping me from buying few copies of VNC Manager, so I hope that you can help. :)

Unable to edit Options in Windows 7

Hi guys,

I'm sure Windows 7 issues are not supported yet so this is more informational than anything.

I'm using a slightly older version, just because it's what we have here at the office, and have had no issues in Vista/XP. I recently upgraded to the Windows 7 Beta and this is the first issue I've run into.

While I fully understand if this is not supported, I'd like to solve this if possible.

VNC Manager 4.5.6.x and UVNC 1.0.2 freeze

Hi S-Code,

So far we've found UVNC 1.0.5.3 (S-Code repackaged and deployed via VNCM) [b]extremely unreliable[/b] (constant freezing, slow etc.) so is basically useless!

So for now we're sticking to 1.0.2.x

I have been noticing since 4.5.5.0 and now in 4.5.6.0 the sessions to 1.0.2.x hosts frequently freezes after opening and closing the file transfer window!

This occurs when connected to machines that have been running 1.0.2.x without a problem for over 12 months, and have not have their installations of UVNC uninstalled or reinstalled.

This doesn't seem to happen when you quickly open and close the transfer window, rather if it's been open for several minutes and files have been transferred!

I hope you can help!

VNC Client freezes, introduced in 4.5.4.x

Hi S-Code,

Several of our technicians using VNCM 4.5.4.0 + Hotfix and 4.5.5.0 including myself are experiencing consistent freezing during VNC sessions.

This is a bug effecting all UVNC clients.

The session will run smooth for a minute or so (although the exact timing is random), then the session will freeze. VNCM will continue to work most of the time. This problem also seems to be triggered when you open and close the file transfer window.

You then need to shut down the VNC session and start it again, although if you stop and start a VNC session quickly it pauses for about 20-30 seconds before it gets going.

VNC Manager 4.5.x in general is unstable compared to 4.0.14.x. I used to be able to open VNC Manager first thing in the morning and shut it in the evening. Now I'm finding I'm having to restart it several times a day!

I can replicate this problem on UVNC 1.4.x, 1.5.0 and 1.5.3 clients, on both VNCM 4.5.4.0 and 4.5.5.0

Context menus get stuck when UVNC file transfer window open

During a UVNC session, when you have a file transfer window open, the 'Computer Manager' context menus get 'stuck'

I cannot seem to replicate this problem when there is no file transfer window open!

Ability to set default options for 'quick connect'

Hello Again S-Code,

An immediate frustration with 4.5.5.0;

I use quick connect regularly, mainly to establish VNC and RDP connections.

I cannot seem to set any default options for these, I want to tell it to always use the 'global settings'. I can manually select 'use settings from' > 'global settings' every time, but this just isn't practical!

At the moment this means I manually have to set the login credentials, VNC settings, untick VNC view only mode etc. every time I use quick connect!

This is really frustrating and I hope the option to set the defaults is in the new release!

Screen Display Cleanup - Some suggestions

I happen to use the 120dpi setting in Windows (XP, latest sp) and multiple monitors, and have noticed the following
(please take these as constructive suggestions)

a) When one uses the Windows 'Large Fonts' setting (120 dpi) Some of the dialogs do not display correctly.
In particular, the checkboxes in some dialogs are overwritten by an icon on the left, almost to the point of not being able to be seen.
For example, for a specific computer, Properties =>Remote Client=>VNC=>Settings the icon for each section overwrites the checkbox
Also, some textbox areas are not big enough for the text font (in particular, the above example the Remote Client leaves out the last 't')

b) Options => Tools => External Tools => Tools : the add/edit/delete is shifted upward

c) Pop-up Dialogs (like Printer Manager) do not appear in the same monitor as the primary window (and thus not 'centered' on the primary form)

Computer Status Updater hanging when it scans my UPS

I have Eaton Powerware UPS's here. When VNC Manager (4.5.2.0) tries to scan it, it just hangs. It would be real handy if I could control what kind of scan VNC Manager tried to do by group or by device.

Main Toolbar Closing

In version 4 you appear to not be able to completely close the main toolbars. This function was available in version 3 and something I used a lot. Could you please re-add the functionality to remove these tools when they are not needed ?

some time ago I tested the VNC-Manger Enterprise Edition v3.6.20.0 and everything was fine. I made a backup and after I bought a license I installed the newest updates to v 3.6.23.0.
Since then the download volume of this pc went up to 3-8GB per day although I didnt make any changes to the VNC Manager. We have about 40 PCs in the Thumbnail View and I set the update of the view to 900 seconds as well as the screenshots which are in very low quality and use only about 300MB per day.
Now I changed the version back to v3.6.20.0 but still the download volume is about 7GB per 24 hours.

There are no viruses on the pc and nothing else is running on this machine, no other downloads.

The other thing is: The thumbnails dont refresh themselves after 900 seconds, like I set it. Only after pressing F5, but thats no solution at all...

Are there any wrong settings, how much download volume do you have, please help me!

Delete key behaviour inside registry editor

I opened one of my users workstations registry and start poking around. Cruised to the run key and found a bunch of stuff that I don't approve running. So I highlighted 8 of the 12 keys and hit the delete key. To my surprise, they didn't get deleted but the folder with all the users workstations did. Thank you for the automatic backups of my configuration. It really saved me but its really annoying to have to do this.

Dynamic Search Folders not scanning correctly

I have 7 dynamic search folders set up to scan each of our OUs for computer accounts. Until a synchronisation feature comes out for the My Registered Computers section, this is the best way I can do this I believe?

I have one of these folders set to retrieve MAC addresses (my local subnet only), and the rest not to.

When I run a network scan, VNC manager picks up the first active computer and puts it in the list, but for subsequent computers it does not - it even seems to overwrite the details (like the AD description field) for the first computer in the list (including retrieving a MAC address for DSFs that I have set it not to). End result is I only have a single listing in the DSF with incorrect information (MAC address & description). The name, address & IP are correct.

I also have a question/suggestion while I'm at it - is it possible to scan multiple OUs with a single DSF, or provide some sort of facility to do this? Our servers range through a variety of OUs, and even different domains.

Showing Remote Users Logged in

We tried to deploy UltraVNC 1.0.4 R16 through deployment wizzard. Everything worked fine, except the setting for the server port. We do not use the default port 5900 for our servers. Although we change this setting in the wizzard, the server is running with the default port 5900.
