Citrix Support

Hey there,

I was talking to one of your techs about 2 years ago and he said that citrix support was scheduled for release in version 4.
Unless im blind (Which is a possibility) there has been no signs of this feature even being considered to be implemented.

I'm sure that this ability will greatly improve your product as a all-in-one management system.

VPN Support

Something else that would be an excellent feature would be the ability to connect a VPN (and maybe even automate disconnect) when connecting to servers. The ability to assign a VPN connection to a folder would make life so much easier.

Better Support for Multi Monitor

I presently use 3 monitors at my workstation to help me manage the multitude of PCs and server s I support. Am going to move to 5 within the month. Would be terrific if VNC Manager better handled this condition. I have tried streatching out the main window, but invariably, the remot session screen is "cut" but the break in-between monitors. I couldn't even fathom how you would implement this, but it sure would be terrific if you could, even if you had tab groups ask if you want to display in different monitors...

View only mode

We need VNC Manager for our clients, so they can monitor their PCs in LAN. However we want to limit the use to view only - they would not able to control PCs. We simply don't want they interfere with PC. They only can check the PC status (what is on the screen). Is such a mode possible ?

Ability to create Keyboard Shortcut Keys

I think it would be really useful to create custom Keyboard Shortcut keys for your most often used commands, or at least add your most used commands to a custom toolbar, sort of like Microsoft Apps have the ability to do. Sure would beat going through mutliple nested menus to access certain features.

Sometimes, I need a printed list of all PC's on the domain.
Sometimes, I need to export a list of installed software from a certain PC.

So the ability to print and export to a spreadsheet would be a great feature to add.

I just started using version 4.0 beta and there's a good chance I will have my company purchase it for me to use.

My situation is that I have other people that could take advantage of VNC when helping end users but they do not need the full blown access to VNC Manager, just be able to easily find the computer they want to control by the user's name or username. Until now I have just had a folder of .vnc files properly named according to the user's full name. Find the user's name in the list, double click, and go. But people move all the time and I just can't keep up with editing the .vnc files all the time.

My request is for a way to export all registered VNC computers in VNC Manager so each one has its own .vnc file and the .vnc file will be named according to the username (or the current user logged in). That way one of my "power users" can find the end user they want out of a list of about 1000 computers (properly grouped, I hope) and do their thing.

How about adding Putty as a connection type? We need to manage Unix/Linux based servers also. As it is, I can't live without VNC Manager, but this would make it even more of a necessity.
Right now, I use VNC Manager, VMware Server console, and Putty to manage just about everything. I think this is common for many admins. I would love to use one tool that does it all.

Change how Parent Group settings are applied

I'm finding the use of inherited group settings a little too restricted. Once set to inherit from parent, I would like to ability to override some of those inherited settings.

Please implement a simple tick box on the parent next to each option that allows/disallows that property/setting to trickle down to others.

For example, I have groups dedicated to RDP servers I manage. I cannot utilize the inherit from parent option simply because of the fact that I cannot store a username/password at the top level and apply to most clients, but a few clients I need to override that setting and use different stored login information. Almost all other options are the same and very tedious to set on all the clients that I cannot inherit settings on.

Selectible inheritance would be great!

Allow for which client drives to map to a Terminal Service session (RDP) instead of all drives or none.

Dameware has a cool feature that you can automatically open a connection once the port is available. This is a great feature when rebooting. If I'm working on more than 1 computer, it reminds me that I had something else in progress and I can go back and finish once the computer comes back online.

Is there a way to query MAC addresses across a router and to get basic network information in the dynamic search folder list?

Unrelated, is there a way to have VNC Manager AUTO-CONNECT to a list of servers on startup? Say an entire server group? I have 3 machines I'd like it to connect to automatically every time I start it up... Thanks in advance!

REQUEST 2 ==============

A hotkey to switch between "tabs" when viewing your connections. That way I can switch between server "a" and server "b" with one press of a button instead of having to use the mouse to switch back and forth using the tabs. It would be cool if the hotkey would be assignable for each tab.

REQUEST 3 ==============

When I do a "new vertical tab group" the viewers often "freeze", meaning the screen does not refresh/update. Looking at my thumbnail previews, they are updating, but the main viewer area is not updating. If I do a "Full Screen Refresh" it updates, but it does not continue to update. Ideally I would like to have 3-4 machines connected, and be able to see all of the desktops at once and simply click between them quickly :D

REQUEST 4 ==============

Import/Export Configurations. I couldn't find a way to do this natively, so I had to select "save configuration", then grab the XML's from the Application Data folder and move them manually to another machine, then update the files manaully with the new path, etc.

Virtual Server - need more options

When connecting to a VirtualServer guest, there are no options to discard undo disks, merge undo disks, save state, shutdown options, etc.

All of these are available from IE when you use IE to connect to the virtual guest. it would be grest to have these in vnc manager, or at least to have the save state and discard undo disks.

I think these options must be available to you to add to VNC Manager. So, unfortunately, Internet Explorer is more useful for Virtual Server than VNC Manager right now.

Seperate From Tab

For some stupid reason everytime I want to seperate a tabbed session I right click on the tab. I know it is not there but I still do it. It would be nice to add the "Seperate Window" option to the tabs right click menu. This way I do not feel as stupid when I keep going there to do it. :D

Listening Viewer Post Disconnect Scripts

I use OneClick by Advantig for customers to connect to me for support. OneClick installs itself as a service with an icon on the desktop to stop the session and uninstall itself when done. If I just close the session I would like to run a script to execute their uninstallation so it does not keep reconnecting to me instead of remembering to run their uninstallation.

Cascading Configuration

In 3.6, a way of inheriting settings from parent groups and global options was implemented.
While this did ease the management of many connections, i feel it is inflexible as there is no way to "override" a specific option for a connection without turning off inheritance for the whole thing -defeating the point.

I propose a method of cascading settings:

The top level is Global. This are base settings.

When you make a group, it inherits all the settings from Global but you can change [i]any[/i] option overriding just that global setting - all others still apply.

A sub-group inherits from the Global group, plus its parent group.

A connection inherits from Global and all parent groups, and its own options can be changed.

This would do away with the "Use settings from" listbox as it would no longer be necessary - all settings would be automatically inherited but any option can be overridden.

The difficult part is how to visually display this in the dialog.
Where there are textboxes, the inherited value could be displayed in a lighter colour (but not disabled), you could then type into the box the overriding value which would be in black.
The same could be done for radio buttons and checkboxes - the inherited value in grey, black if it is set at this level.

Shortcut to change user

I usually configure all RDP connections to use the administrator logon, but sometimes I want to login as someone else.
Right now I have to edit the connection, use it, then change it back.

In the same way that you can use shift+click to switch to console, how about another modifier that lets you enter a different username and password ?

Customized Default Connect Method

I'd like to see a way to add a new default connect method for individual machines. I also have a lot of devices on my network, like printers or routers or NAS, that have either web enabled admin tools, or other installed admin tools. I'd like to be able to set the default connect method for any one device to a customized method. I'd also like to connect VNC with the native VNC client, and this would allow that too (unless there's a way to do that which I haven't found yet...)

Display ALL

I organize computers by group and subgroup and subsubgroup. That makes it difficult to find a machine if I have forgotten which group it is in. It would be nice to either have an "ALL" group that lists all the computers or a "Find" function or perhaps both. The ALL would probably be the most useful as I can sort to find what I need.

VCM Manager - Remote exec - Delete script after execution

Hi,

I use the smartCode VNC Manager in order to deploy some applications.
Using the smartCode Remote Exec tool, I upload my install script and the ressource files that are needed by the script.

The script is uploaded and executed.
The ressource files are uploaded and deleted at the end of the execution of the script (this is an option).

After the deployment, the script file isn't deleted.
May it be possible to have an option (like the one for the ressource files) to delete the executed script file at the end of the deployment, please ? :w00t:

Windows Key

What I would really much like to see is a working Windows key when using SmartCode VNC Manager and UltraVNC in tabbed mode. I don't really know if this is a thing Smartcode can make or if it is UltraVNC that has to do it. But it's on my wishlist.

It will be a neat feature to be able to add additional devices as servers, such as firewalls print servers etc. that can be access via browser.

In that way all devices could be stored by company and will integrate the management even more. Everything from one console.

If you are using a share location, how do you implement usernames and passwords for auto login capabilities? Due to auditing requirements we cannot create "Admin Accounts" (so that username and password would be the same used by all users of the shared xml files).

I think there may be a feature upgrade request so that there could be a centrally managed list of servers S-Code files and have the ability of the users "pulling" the list of servers be able to feed in their current username and password into the user name and passwords list for each server. To be more clear: Have a way of segregating the list of server, hostnames and folder organization settings so that you could pull the list of servers from a network share but then be able to use a "local file for the passwords and user name globally either via a local app stored setting or be able to just poll and pull the current username and password of the workstation session into a cache and to use in logging into servers (the username and password are synchronized across about 35 domains in our company so the username and password would need to be pulled separate from the domain in order to work in our scenario.

I can think of a way to keep the server ip, hostname and folder organization pulling from a network share location and by writing a script to poll the information from the workstation user session and insert into the corresponding XML fields to work but I am hoping to get S-Code to make this feature available somehow so that large "Enterprise" users could centrally manage the list of servers, IP's and folder but be able to "pull" in security specific information such as username and password.

Put another way we would need a way to Centrally manage the server IP information so it could be used by 100 engineers who all work on the same servers and IP but have different user names and passwords while having the ability to use the AutoLogin feature that providing the username and password provide. Right now we can centrally manage the server IP and folder organization by using a dummy userame - but we then have to type our user and password for every login to a RDP session (we sometimes open 20 servers at a time.)

Remote install/gather agent

I make extensive use of the SSH tunneling feature. Actually it's invaluable to me.

I look after a large number of separate networks with many workstations on each, all connections to the remote network are done by SSH tunnel.

Currently, when I want to perform a rollout of VNC to a number of workstations I do the following:
1. Install the vnc manager software on the server of the remote network (the eval)
2. enumerate the machines on the network
3. Use the deploy wizard to deploy VNC (where I have to create the deployment job)
4. Export the list of machines
5. Import the list on local install of VNC Manager
6. Configure SSH tunnel and password for each server
7. Remove VNC manager from the remote server

There are a few things I feel that could be done that could streamline this, and take advantage of all the other very useful features in VNC Manager that cannot be used (so far as I have discovered) through a VNC tunnel such as the remote reboot and remote command execute etc

A remote agent of some kind would be very useful. I would imagine it to be like this:
1. At its core it's simply a version of VNC Manager that has had the actual VNC/RDP connection part removed. All the discovery and deployment tools remain.
2. Either the "save servers as a list" have the option to store passwords (obviously pointing out the risk of this) or the backup manager can selectivly import servers.
3. A mass editor to alter many entries at once (adding SSH tunnel information to a group in one go) - I suspect this will not be necessary when 3.6 appears though

And finally, though it's probably far too much effort for what is likely small return:
4. Since the extra tools don't work over SSH (shutdown/remote execute) some sort of method where the remote agent performs them and sends the results back (Think of it as a VNC Manager proxy or sophisticated bouncer).
Actually, integrating an RDP or VNC bouncer into this remote agent would be a sensible idea too.

Lastly i'd just like to add that VNC Manager is brilliant. Really good!

Ability to add external tools directly to individual machines

I wouldn't mind seeing the External tools attached to the individual tools, so you can add the web page for a device, and any other controls that the user wishes.

Either that or I would love to see the ability for Web pages like HP iLO's added to the individual devices?

VNC custom function keys & VNC lock server control and blank screen

Hello,

First I wanted to congratulate you on an awsome product. I just started using it three days ago and am totally sold already. There are however, (as this forum suggests) some features that I would like to suggest.

The first is a button or menu option that allows you to create custom hot key combinations that get sent to the server, i.e. I can use the combination CNTRL+ALT+E to send the equivilant of a Windows key + E. Since unless you are in full screen mode the standard windows combinations (windows+E for explorer etc) won't be sent to the server, this will allow us to create our own combinations that will work in either full or windowed mode. A window or option similar to the image below with the addition of another button to allow you to add more button combinations to the list would be nice. (Note: The image is a print screen from UltraVNC's tabbed viewer http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=63887)

The second feature I would like to request is the ability to blank out the remote pc's screen and lock their controls (again a feature that is supported by UltraVNC's server and viewer). If this is possible with VNC Manager then I would also like the ability to choose to both lock controls and blank the screen or just lock their controls but let them still follow what you are doing. An extention (if possible) to that request would be the ability to have a custom message or image be displayed on the remote pc when their screen is blanked out i.e. "This computer is currently being managed remotely, please wait."

The third thing is support for multi-displays. UltraVNC's tabbed viewer has a button to toggle between desktops/screens on a server with multiple monitors. A similar button in VNC Manager would be really nice.

Finally the last feature I would like is an option to execute a file remotely on a pc without having to first connect via RDP or VNC. Something similar to Systernals PSEXEC. I would like to be able to right click on a server and click on an option to execute a file on that server. That way if the server you need to connect to doesn't have VNC on it you can remotely send and execute a standalone VNC server so you can connect.
