New Management Features

The Shares Manager makes keeping track of which folders each user is sharing on his computer child's play. The Services Manager provides the ability to manage computer system services remotely. For example, the service manager has the ability to request a list of all the services running on all of your network’s computers and then add a filter so that only the service the IT manager is interested in viewing is shown for all computers on the network. Real-time monitoring features in SmartCode VNC Manager v4.0

Customers who have downloaded and played with SmartCode VNC Manager v4.0 Beta 1 most probably aware that the new version is going to include new remote computer management features. In particular there will be Printers, Shares, Services, Drivers, Event Log and Users/Groups managers. This list is not complete and most probably will include other “managers” in the final v4.0 release. The exciting news is that starting with Beta 2 the “managers” will include real-time monitoring capabilities. Things like service or printer state, number of print jobs on a particular printer, creating of a new folder share will be automatically shown in the “manager” window. There will be no need to click Refresh (F5) button to refresh the objects state.

I was browsing the Internet today and came across a company web site, which is selling Delphi-based components and applications. One of their products is called...VNC Manager. :blink: And on top of that they have the following product description: "....Application like SmartCode VNC Manager, and provides...."

Actually it was very funny. Their Deplhi VNC Manager looks pretty much exactly like one of the first beta versions of SmartCode VNC Manager v1.0.

Anyway it nice to know that SmartCode VNC Manager is getting so popular that others are trying to clone its look and features. But these guys are going to have a hard time, since the next major update v4.0 is going to raise bar even higher.

It is now compatible with Windows Vista.
Inheritable registered computer properties. While the previous versions of the VNC Manager had this feature partially implemented, in the v3.6 we took it to the next level. In the v3.6 all registered computers can be inherited from a parent folder or from the global settings.
Integrated Windows Registry Editor that allows editing registry on a remote computer.
Secure logon credential templates.
VNC Thumbnail view performance optimizations.

It’s now possible to select high-quality and low-quality rendering modes for the thumbnail items. With the low-quality mode taking about 15-20% less CPU.
The update of thumbnails no longer starts updating at the same instant. So the CPU hit when several thumbnail items start fetching remote screen is gone.

Faster application start-up. The VNC Manager starts up to 70% faster than the previous versions.
UltraVNC Select Single Window support.
External Tools and Action scripts allow to specify optional user logon credentials (RunAs functionality).
User-defined properties that can be assigned to a registered computer. These properties can be used as a variables in the External Tools.
The new Quick Filter feature allows you to easily filter the registered computers list content.
Computer Status Scan enhancements.

Windows Error Reporting (WER) Support

Windows Error Reporting (WER) is a set of Windows technologies that capture software crash data and support end-user reporting of crash information. An end user experiencing a crash is shown a dialog box that asks whether to send an error report to Microsoft. If the user chooses to send the report, then Microsoft Windows Error Reporting (WER) collects information about the application and the module involved in the crash and sends the encrypted information to a secure server at Microsoft. In some cases, additional data is also collected in a .cab file and sent with the report.

Starting from the VNC Manager (Enterprise Edition) v3.6.15.0 we are going to register all the future builds with Windows Error Reporting web site. So if the VNC Manager crashes on your computer, please do submit the error reports to Microsoft. We will be able to access your reports and analyze them.

100% Vista compatibility. Current v3.5 works fine under Vista, but where are couple minor bugs, which has been fixed in the v3.6.
This release also includes various bug fixes and enhancements.

VNC Manager v2.5.71.3 change log

FIXED: Reset Password Wizard doesn't reset Password located under HKLM\ORL\WinVNC3\Default branch.
FIXED: "Error 1406: Could not write value AcceptBell" during RealVNC 4.0 deployment.
FIXED: Gray screen instead of VNC Viewer when opening separate viewer or switching to full screen.
FIXED: "There is already a toolbar designated as the main menu bar" exception occurs when click on VNC viewer toolbar in full-screen mode.

As we stated before we don't plan to add any major features to v2.5 branch. Only bug fixes in minor improvements are going to be implemented. In meantime all new features are being added to v3.0 branch. We have already implemented:

RDP server scan and status scan
UltraVNC chat support
Dynamic Group Folders, which automatically populated with RDP/VNC server - almost finished.

New Web Forum

We have some bad and good news for you guys.

As you probably noticed our forum was down for a couple days. After investigation we found out that our web hosting service provider has upgraded to latest version of PHP 4.9.10, which has a bug in MSSQL module.
In result our phpBB forum has stopped to work. It wasn't a first time when PHP or some other upgrades caused problems with the forum.

After some discussions we have decided to invest some money and purchase ASP.NET based commercial web forum.
So the good news is that a new forum is up in running. It looks better than phpBB, has more features, and hopefully won't be broken by some upgrades on HSPs side.

All users of old forum should receive email confirmation notifications. This is because we have added all account from old forum to a new one.
After you confirm your email, please visit to the forum and update your personal particulars.

The password for all accounts is set to scode, we advise you update your password after account activation
