What changes / features do you expect to make in the beta version. I do note the ssh key addition which I dearly love and thank you. Still looking for the ssh terminal client though.

When using the "stretch screen" option, I'd like to see a keep 1:1 aspect ratio ability. I admin a lot of dual screen computers. I use a very large wide screen to remote assist, and the ability to shrink just slightly to get both dual monitors on my wide screen is extremely helpful. But the odd "too high" stretch is annoying, and makes remote operation harder.

Cool. How about including IP address as an option in the computer list columns?

How about including IP address as an option in the computer list columns? It's there already and called the IP address or Hostname field To be honest we yet to hear a really good reason to add separate IP address field in the properties dialog. But perhaps what we could do is add IP address column in the registered computers list. And when the VNC Manager updates computer's statuses (VNC/RDP/Ping status updates) we could fill in the IP address column with the computer's current IP address. What do you think?

Yes, the "registered computers list" is what I was originally referring to. I manage a lot of computer across several VPN connections, so many of them have different subnets. Occasionally it's nice to be able to see what IP address a computer is at to make some management tasks a little easier. And auto-filling that field would be most helpfull. Thanks!

Process threading of managment tasks... Sometimes when I launch a task, say like manage installed software, on a particular computer it renders the rest of VNC Manager useless until that task is done. For that particular task, managing installed software, it is tediously slow. So that causes problems. Say for instance, I start a task that opens a window that doesn't run on a seperate thread, and then a user calls in with need for assistance in a remote location. Now VNC Manager is unavailable, so I cannot use it to help that user for many minutes. If that task window were in a seperate process thread, then I would be able to switch back to the main VNC Manager window and continue working with that user while the other tasks continues to process in a seperate thread on the CPU. Is that a good example? Thanks, Scott

Manage Installed Software works 10 times faster in v4 Beta2 and it was very slow to fetch installed programs in v3.6, v4.0 B1, indeed.

Cool! I guess the "Last IP" column choice is in beta 2? When is beta 2 going to be available? Also, I think I found a bug in beta 1. I have a few computer with TightVNC installed, all others are UltraVNC. I changed the deployment in a couple computers from TightVNC to UltraVNC, and for some reason, at a random interval the column for "VNC Distrobution" icon in the lists will sometimes revert back to TightVNC for those computers. If I rescan them it changes to UltraVNC correctly, but might revert back again. I'm not sure what causes it to do that yet, it seems random. Also, in the Deployment Wizard, could it remember previous switches and fields better? I have to keep typing in my standard VNC password, and that I prefer the viewer installed, no icon tray, etc etc. Maybe a "save as default" step at the end... If there is a way to do this, I haven't found it yet.

I tested the deployment icon thing again. I did a "Check VNC/RDP Server Status" on the computers in question, and they all returned Ultravnc and then closed VNC Manager 4.0 beta 1 and reopened. The three computers in question are now showing TightVNC. I've got pictures (with company data, so I can't post here) that I'd be glad to e-mail to your guys. Message me here, or admin e-mail me. Thanks! Scott

It seems to be working just fine here. I had UltraVNC installed on a remote computer, and the VNC Manager was showing UltraVNC distribution. Then I run the Deployment Wizard, which uninstalled UltraVNC and installed TightVNC distribution. Then I hit Ctrl+U shortcut to update the computer status, and it updated Distribution column to TightVNC/RealVNC. Did I miss any steps?

...then close and re-open VNC Manager and the icons (for me) will switch back to TightVNC. I did have the TightVNC installations done pre-beta test installation, so I'm not sure if that would have anything to do with it. It's only cosmetic so no biggie...

Having a way to set the time on when you would like to take snapshots would be handy, could set that up for when you weren't going to be in the office, if there is 24 hour coverage, or on a day off. would be nice to see in the final release anyway. Jason

Would like to see:
Connect to:
SSH/Telnet to admin Routers would be awesome
HTTP to admin Switches, Printers and Wireless
Inventory Export or reporting - Software, hardware, IP, Computer name, User logged on or last login

Mike, starting from the v4.0.3.0 HTTP can be selected as one of the default connection methods for a registered computer. As for SSH/Telnet, we are considering adding them as an integrated connection methods. Meanwhile, you could add them as an External Tools.

Thanks for implementing the new "aspect ratio" screen stretch mode. Very nice. I haven't figured out yet how to make it the default view mode for all computer yet though? Can I get a hint? Thanks!

Another idea. It appears to me that it might be better to put the thumbnails page tabbed at the top rather than the bottom of the window. Personal preference of course, it throws me sometimes to remember whether to look at the top or bottom for tabs on tasks I'm working on.

Here's something I'd like to see a change on: I use the global settings, and think that is a great idea. But there are a couple of "special cases" in the computers I manage. I'd like to see a way to over-ride global settings in the client properties dialog without the need to start at the global settings to do that change. I always forget where to change the global settings because there is not a simple top menu link to those settings. Overall the setup for global is just cumbersome to work with. Any improvement there would be super helpful. Thanks!

Scott, this is indeed something that could be implemented in one of the upcoming releases since many users are asking about such feature. The main problem at this point is how to implement the GUI for such feature. One possibly is to have it implemented similar to "Advanced Tag Editor" in Windows Media player when you try to edit tags on more than one file. Here is the screenshot:
When you open the same command on a single file, the checkboxes are hidden and only shown in case of multi-selection. Something like that could be implemented in the VNC Manager as well. With exception that the override checkboxes will be show in case if a registered computer inherits his settings.

I can definately see how this type of feature could become very very complicated, and quickly. The way I would imagine it is that there would be an "Override" checkbox on the main dialog tab that would turn the global parent settings on or off. Then that machine and that machine only would keep the current copy of the parent settings, but then allow changes to be made and stored from that point forward. Until the state was turned back to "off" on the override where globa/parent settings would be copied again and the state of the machine would follow that rules at that point.

OK, scratch that last request. I found what I was suggesting was already in there. It just didn't jump out at me. I don't want to complain, but there's a lot to this program that does "jump out" at me. I know it's all a learning thing. And I have enough problems myself trying to help educate users that are not computer litterate. But when a seasoned computer user like me has problems finding features... I'm sure you get what I mean. Thanks for your work anyway, it's a great program and I'd be at a loss without it.
