Some of our customers who use the Deployment or the VNC Reset Password Wizard receive "The RPC server is unavailable" error, which usually caused by a firewall blocking the connection. The ones who are unaware about it contact our support asking for a help. In v3.0 we tried to cover the issue and provide more user friendly information about the error. Take a look on a screenshot that showing how the Reset Password wizard handles such situation.

Kindest Regards,

I also recieve this message whenever I try to shutdown/restart a machine through power management. What might be the cause?

FYI: These machines are not in a Active Directory domain if it matters. Both the Manager machine and the clients are running XP SP2, but none of them have the firewall turned on.

(Currently using the trial, thinking about purchasing this software)

Hi,
the cause is exacly the same as in the wizards case. Shutdown/Restart feature uses WMI so it requires RPC ports opened on the target PC.

Please take a look on the article named What ports are used by VNC Manager when working with a remote computer ?
in the FAQ http://www.s-code.com/faq.aspx?menu=faq

I understand that, but we have no firewalls turned on. In fact, the "Windows Firewall / ICS" service is disabled on the machines.
